Peikon tarina
Ever since my childhood I have loved Lapphunds. Peikko came to us on Valentine's Day 2010 as a fluff ball of fur! I always admired Lecibsin Lapphunds ever since I went to dog shows as a youngster. Now this incredibly brave and noisy whirlwind came to our home and stole our hearts immediately! He was right at home, not one whine came out of him the first night. He is still just like that, right at home where ever he goes!
He grew up to be a lively and enthusiastic young boy, always ready to do things. At 5 months we started puppy school just to learn good manners, but I picked up soon that he might be a potential obedience trial dog. So we started at an obedience goal-directed group at Ulvila Working Dog assoc. When reaching adolescence he started to pay attention to girls way too much and we focused on other things meanwhile. We started training agility, first time for us both. Peikko loved it, I am the one needing much more training! As Peikko got older, he started to pay attention to me again and we now compete in open class in obedience. He already knows the higher classes, so we will continue trialing.
Peikko is a very confident male and does not need to bully other males. He LOVES all people and is not very soft, he does not remember bad things long. He is moderately biddable, independent dog, but when you figure out what strings to pull with him, he will get the moon for you! As he is so lively, concentration is a challenge sometimes. And he likes to use his voice often. These are our challenges in obedience. On the plus side, he is incredibly fast learner and moves fast. He is very steady and predictable to complete the commands. He is prey oriented. And as he is so confident, he is always himself what ever happens.
At home Peikko is mostly calm. He has never had any kind of separation anxiety or chewed on things. Well, few sunglasses etc. had their days, but never when he was alone. He gets along with other dogs very well, but won't be second if someone attacks him. He has a high threshold for aggressiveness. He can be such a clown and brings a smile on our faces frequently. He needs boundaries, but is an easy dog otherwise. We love him to pieces!
Obedience is our main hobby along with shows, agility is something we probably will continue at some point. It's not that easy to get to a herding class here, but last Spring we finally managed that. Peikko was very interested and enthusiasted in the sheep and showed herding instinct. We will continue this definately! We were introduced to people search one summer and this was real fun for Peikko. Blood tracking was also very natural for Peikko, he just loved it! As Peikko is so enthusiastic to do what ever I ask of him, he is a hobbyist dream. If my time only allows for everything!
